Days 16-18 | Date: 1 -3 January : Lucerne

The last three days we have spent the day in beautiful city of Lucerne, Switzerland. Upon arrival it was unfortunately raining, however we still viewed the famous Lion Monument carved into stone and did a river cruise on Lake Lucerne. The cruise was fantastic with stunning views of all the snowy mountain tops as well as the shoreline of the city.

The following day we embarked on an excursion to the summit of Mount Pilatus where we admired the views of the snowy mountain tops all the way down the city of Lucerne. This sight was breathtaking. On the way down we all convinced our tour guide to let us have 20mins in the snow where yet another massive snow fight with all members young and old took place. Dad won the award for the “biggest kid” from our tour guide as he and two other men from the tour were tackling each other and running around like little kids hahah.

After this we did a horse carriage countryside tour of Lucerne . This was the biggest highlight of the trip so far for me as it wasn’t based around famous monuments filled with crowds. Instead we met a local Swiss farming family who took us on a tour of the countryside on a horse-drawn carriages. The scenery was stunning and resembled post cards and famous oil paintings of the Swiss Alps grounded by rich green grass. After the carriage ride we went back to their house and enjoyed homemade asparagus soup, panini, swiss pastries and even homemade apple juice and cheese. It was so great to have homemade food in Han’s backyard whilst being warmed by the bon fire and enjoying the views of the mountain tops.  An interesting fact about this countryside town 30mins out of Lucerne was that properties are worth around $ 1.4 million dollars each.  However waking up to views like they do, this price is easily justifiable.

Overall Lucerne was definitely up there with my favourite cities on our journey so far, and everyone agrees. The city is so clean, perfect and everything just works. The way the city is centralised on the shore of Lake Lucerne which is boarded by towering snow tipped mountains is truely a great site.

We are all looking forward to Paris!

Missing you all Gabriel.

I look great in this one ;)

Nick was allowed in the drivers seat!
