Buon Giorno di Roma,
As you know there are many things
to see in Rome and as usual so little time in which to see it. We started the morning viewing Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and the
hallways that link it to St Peters Basilica.
These hallways have many pieces of statues, candelabras, etc and tapestries
that measure easily 10 x 12 metres but what was most impressive were the
artworks on the ceilings. We all thought
they were 3D but as it turned out they weren’t.
It took a lot of convincing but after many glances we believed it.
We then made our way into the
Basilica. They have partitioned the church
in segments with velvet curtains. I do not think this does the Basilica any
justice but I think it is so you see everything individually. It is still very beautiful and full of many
riches. We also visited the Colosseum
and the Forum and drove past the Piazza di Venezia, Spanish Steps.
Overall, I think the kids really
loved and embraced all the architecture and history in Rome, but thought it
lacked class. They thought people here
would be driving expensive cars and dressing to suit probably like London.
However the streets were dirty and illegal street vendors were in sight
everywhere you looked.
