Today we all enjoyed our first sleep in after 20
days on tour where our average wakeup call was at 6am!
After our late start we met Barnaby our local
tour guide who took us around Berlin, talking about the rich history associated
with the city as well as its importance throughout the war and Nazi regime.
Throughout the walk we witnessed many interesting and significant sites including;
the square where the Nazi's burned over 20 000 books relating to theories they disregarded;
the office block where Hitler worked; Hitler’s bunker where he committed
suicide and in turned marked the end of WW2, as well as the Berlin Wall and
many other sites.
The city itself was widespread and very rich in culture,
presenting very common similarities to Czech in regards to its communistic designs,
however many differences in the sense of new buildings which boasted modern and
in many cases eccentric architectural design.
In the past the city was divided into two parts,
one communistic region ruled by the Soviets and one capitalist region ruled by
the Americans. The wall separating the two parts was only destroyed a mere 22
years ago and the difference between the two is still quite obvious today with
regards to building design. Overall citizens of Berlin were happy with this
change however many still miss certain aspects of the Communistic regime
including no unemployment and health care. This is what makes the city of
Berlin very unique and different from any other city in the world.
Overall we all enjoyed Berlin because of the rich
history and culture the city had to offer. The city holds 147 museums, many
based on the war. With this in mind Dad was very keen to come back in the
future and fully immerse himself with the history of the city.

Very good to see you are having a good time and from the photos, good weather. Will be interesting to see how your driving holiday now goes. I hope Gabriel is driving. Not sure Bruno will be calm enough ;-)
Everything is fine back here. Cosmo had a bath on the weekend which made him extra fluffy. He is having an absolute party with Hugo and I seriously suggest you think about another dog to keep him company. It is amazing how much fun they have together. Connie and I just sit and watch them run, jump and play until they are exhausted and collapse.
Temperature is starting to heat up now after a very mild December. Slept without sheets last night for the first time. Even Connie did so that tells you how hot it is.
Spoke with Tessa on the weekend and she hit -15 degrees in Canada...
You guys are in for a shock when you get back lol.
