Reggi Tour 2011: Day 1: London-Brussels

Hello everyone,

Today marked the start of our 21 day European tour. We all awoke to an especially chilly morning and departed from London at roughly 6am to beat the traffic congestion. As everyone was still half asleep there was no introduction as such to the rest of the people on tour.

We then proceeded to drive to the white cliffs of Dover and crossed the channel into France. After arriving in France we visited the WWII cemetery in Fromelles where many Australian and British soldiers were found in 2008. Following Fromelle we continued to the quaint medieval town of Bruges which lived up to its medieval reputation filled with ancient cobbled streets and intertwining canals.

Finally we arrived in Belgium and its capital city of Brussels. We arrived at night and were greeted by light snowfall together with bright Christmas lights that lined the streets. This was a beautiful site and was a first for us as we had not yet been immersed in a city that was celebrating the season of Christmas such as the community of Brussels.

After all enjoying another authentic dinner we headed back to the hotel to have drinks and mingle with all the other tour members. The tour comprises of approximately 30 individuals; some older people, a few young couples and two other families. Most of the group are Australian and a few are from South Africa and New Zealand. Everyone seemed very nice including our tour guide.

Overall our day was great and everyone was happy that we had finally started the tour. Now of to get some sleep before Amsterdam tomorrow .
