14 – 16 January |Torino

Day 1
Today we arrived in Torino Airport eagerly waiting to see Linos and Maria (Ciao!).  On our exit from the arrival lounge our eagerness turned to anxiousness, as there wasn’t anyone to greet us.  After what seemed like an hour and in fact it was only about 10 minutes, a very grey Linos came to greet us.  We somehow managed to fit  five suitcases into two very small cars.
Zia Maria prepared a beautiful dinner starting with antipasto which consisted of many different smallgoods and cheeses to foods like sundried tomatoes, olives and mushrooms all prepared from produce they grew on their farms near Castiglione.  We then had pasta carbonara and cotoletti followed by fruit and nuts.
Before heading to our apartment to crash for the night, Zio drove us around the city.

Day 2
Today was jam packed.  We started with a walk through the city with Zia showing us  many beautiful sights like the main piazza, the royal palace, St John the Baptist Church, and San Carlo Church.
Later in the afternoon Zio took us to the Juventus Stadium which is connected to a shopping centre.  This had just been completed in September, 2011 and seats up to 30000 people.  Inside the shopping centre there was a Juventus store to Nicholas’ delight.
Tonight after yet another beautiful dinner prepared by Zia we went and had coffee at Tiziana and Gianni’s house.

Day 3
Today we visited a Car Museum, Torino’s Botanical Gardens which is about 30 kms long and drove by  Piazza Vittorio which is the biggest square in Italy.
Later in the afternoon we took a stroll down the main street where Zio and Zia live.  To my surprise they have many little shops from grocery stores to little boutiques.  Tonight we went out for pizza where we met Giuseppe my cousin for the first time.  The wood fired pizza was delicious but how they manage to eat one pizza each I will never know.  Not even the boys manage to get through it.
Overall we immensely enjoyed Zio and Zia’s company and will miss them and their generosity.  Torino city itself was nice but the pollution makes it look very dull.

Love from Carmel
